The Imperial Valley Master Chorale will perform a program of sacred music spanning multiple eras with Music for a Sunday Afternoon: Sacred Favorites Through the Ages on Sunday, March 30, at 4 p.m. The concert will take place at Sts. Peter and Paul Episcopal Church in El Centro.

The program will feature a selection of choral and instrumental works from the Renaissance to contemporary compositions. Highlights include Mozart’s Dies Irae from Requiem, Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, and Vivaldi’s Gloria in Excelsis Deo, along with modern pieces such as John Rutter’s Magnificat and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Pie Jesu.

The Imperial Valley String Quartet, under the direction of Joel Jacklich, will accompany the chorale along with featured instrumentalists. Baritone soloist Eric Rubalcava, an Imperial Valley native and announcer for the San Diego Padres and CBS 8 San Diego, will perform Bach/Gounod’s Ave Maria.

The program will also feature If Ye Love Me by Thomas Tallis (1565), Gloria in Excelsis Deo by Antonio Vivaldi (1715), and two selections from Mozart’s Requiem (1791), Ave Verum Corpus and Dies Irae. Additionally, the chorale will perform Locus Iste by Anton Bruckner (1889) and John Rutter’s All Things Bright and Beautiful (1983). The concert will also include traditional spirituals and hymns such as Simple Gifts, Lord, I Know I Been Changed, and Ain’t Got Time to Die.

“This program offers a rich selection of sacred music that has inspired audiences for centuries,” said artistic director George Scott.

Tickets will be available at the door for $15. Students through grade 12 will be admitted free of charge.
