Ivan Quintana has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison, to be served consecutively to his current prison term, after being found guilty of multiple charges stemming from an incident at Calipatria State Prison. Quintana will also be required to register as a sex offender.
Imperial County Superior Court Judge Christopher J. Plourd imposed the maximum sentence at the request of Senior Deputy District Attorney John Harter.
Quintana was serving a separate prison sentence when he committed the offenses in March 2023. He had been scheduled for release this year, but instead will begin serving the additional 12-year term.
A jury found Quintana guilty on December 17, 2024, of all charges against him, which included five felonies and one misdemeanor. The charges stemmed from the sexual battery of a prison employee, as well as battery and resistance against two correctional officers.
After brief deliberations, the jury determined that the prosecution had proven the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. Jurors also found five aggravating factors to be true, including that Quintana posed a serious danger to society. His criminal history includes multiple felony convictions, including robbery and residential burglary.
The victim in the case received support from the Imperial County District Attorney’s Office Victim Witness Assistance Program throughout the legal process.
The District Attorney’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to supporting victims of sexual assault and ensuring the prosecution of sex offenders.
