Welcome to *Imperial Valley Insight*, your trusted publication dedicated to local news across Imperial County. We’re here to bring you stories from the seven cities that make up this unique region and to cover the events, people, and issues that impact our vibrant, binational community.

Imperial Valley holds a special place in California as one of the state’s most agriculturally productive regions and as a neighbor to Mexicali, Baja California. With a bustling industrial sector and nearly one million residents, Mexicali shares a deeply interwoven relationship with Imperial Valley, one built on family ties, trade, and shared values. These connections enrich our region, blending cultures and economies on both sides of the border in ways that few other places can, issues and topics we cover at our monthly publication, Beyond Borders Gazette, which has been in circulation for almost 9 consecutive years.

As a resident and homeowner in Imperial Valley, I was inspired to launch *Imperial Valley Insight* by a desire to elevate the quality of journalism in our community. We aim to provide in-depth reporting that helps residents make informed decisions, stay aware of critical issues, strengthen local relationships, and amplify voices that often go unheard. Ultimately, we want to serve as a force for positive change, enhancing the quality of life for everyone in Imperial County.

Our mission is clear: to inform, engage, and empower. We believe that high-quality journalism is essential for a thriving community, and we are committed to delivering stories that reflect the diversity, resilience, and unique spirit of Imperial Valley.

In addition to our robust digital presence and multimedia platform, we’re excited to announce our plan to launch a printed eight-page tabloid. This publication will be distributed in 5,000 copies each week across Imperial County, reaching all seven cities at strategic distribution points. We aim to make local news more accessible and provide a tangible source of information for readers throughout the region. Our weekly tabloid will cover everything from local government updates to community events, offering a comprehensive view of life in Imperial Valley.

Home to around 180,000 residents, Imperial County is made up of seven cities: Brawley, Calexico, Calipatria, El Centro, Holtville, Imperial, and Westmorland. Additionally, there are eight unincorporated communities, including Bombay Beach, Heber, Niland, Ocotillo, Palo Verde, Salton City, Seeley, and Winterhaven. Officially established as the last county in California in 1907, Imperial County spans over 4,284 square miles, making it the ninth-largest county in the state.

Imperial County’s agricultural roots run deep. Known as “America’s Winter Salad Bowl,” the county produces nearly half of the country’s winter vegetables. Agriculture is complemented by renewable resources, with the region generating power through geothermal, wind, and solar energy. Our landscapes are as diverse as our community, offering cultural and recreational experiences that include the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area—an off-roading paradise—and the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge, a haven for birdwatchers.

The history and geography of Imperial Valley are a testament to the area’s resilience and transformation. Bordered by the Colorado River to the east and the Salton Sea to the west, the valley stretches south from the Salton Sea into Mexico, forming part of a geographic depression known as the Salton Trough. This basin includes the Coachella Valley to the north, creating a rich agricultural zone that was once submerged by the Gulf of California.

The region was largely uninhabited until the early 1900s, when the Imperial Canal diverted Colorado River water into the valley, transforming it into a fertile agricultural center. El Centro, the largest city in Imperial Valley and a hub for retail, transportation, and industry, sits 50 feet below sea level, making it the largest U.S. city below sea level. Today, Imperial Valley is often referred to as “Lithium Valley” due to its abundance of lithium deposits, a crucial element for powering electric vehicles and other modern technologies.

Imperial Valley’s identity is enriched by the blend of Mexican and American cultures, a fusion that is evident in our customs, traditions, and community celebrations. The proximity to Mexicali and the strong cross-border relationships have created a community that thrives on mutual support, cultural exchange, and economic collaboration. Our goal at *Imperial Valley Insight* is to capture this spirit and to highlight stories that matter to our diverse readers.

Imperial Valley, in particular, stands out as a hub for both local and international business. Known for its role as an industrial and commercial center, Imperial Valley is home to bustling markets, family-owned businesses, and two international border crossings that facilitate trade and tourism with Mexicali. Our coverage will dive into these economic links, looking at how cross-border commerce shapes our community’s economy and impacts everyday life.

For local businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations seeking to reach Imperial Valley’s engaged community, we offer various advertising options. Our media kit is available upon request, and we encourage anyone interested in advertising with us to email us at imperialvalleyinsight@gmail.com. We also invite readers to sign up for our newsletter at www.imperialvalleyingisht.com to stay updated on news, special features, and local event highlights.
