One man was killed, and another was airlifted for medical treatment following a traffic collision on North Imperial Avenue, according to the El Centro Police Department.
Officers responded Saturday night to a report of a collision with unknown injuries in the area of the 3000 block of North Imperial Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found a black Dodge with major rollover damage along the dirt shoulder of the southbound lanes and a white Toyota in the dirt center median, police said.
Two women who had been traveling in the Dodge were found nearby and were not injured. Officers also found a man who was unresponsive and had suffered major injuries, according to police.
Police located a second man inside a nearby concrete drainage canal.
Despite emergency response efforts, the unresponsive man was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man was transported by air ambulance for medical treatment. Police did not provide information about his condition.
The identities of the two men were not immediately released.
The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Scientific Investigations Unit assisted with processing the collision scene. The Imperial Police Department and California Highway Patrol assisted with traffic control during the investigation.
The cause and circumstances of the collision remain under investigation by the El Centro Police Department.
