20th Annual Imperial County Spelling Bee Set for March 20

The Imperial County Office of Education (ICOE) is gearing up to host the 20th Annual Imperial County Spelling Bee on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the ICOE Administrative Conference Center (Building E) in El Centro. The event will be available for live streaming at www.icoe.org/spellingbeelive.

Affiliated with the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee, this local competition will bring together the top two spellers from each participating school. A total of 59 students from 29 schools will compete for the opportunity to represent Imperial County at the national level in Washington, D.C.

Participating schools include Witter, Wilson Jr. High, T.L. Waggoner, Sunflower, St. Mary’s, San Pasqual, Phil Swing, Padilla Pace, Meadows, McKinley, Martin Luther King, Margaret Hedrick, Lincoln, Kennedy, Jefferson, IV Home School Academy, Holtville Middle School, Heber Elementary, Harding, Frank Wright, Dool, Desert Garden, De Anza Magnet, Cross Elementary, Cesar Chavez, Booker T. Washington Elementary, Blanche Charles, Ben Hulse, and Barbara Worth Jr. High.

To support the winning student’s trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the Foundation for Education is raising funds. Donations can be made at http://bit.ly/Spelling-Bee-2025.

In addition to the Spelling Bee, ICOE continues to enrich students’ educational experiences with upcoming events such as the Esports Competition (April 1-2, 2025), the Math Competition (April 30 and May 1, 2025), and the Arts Festival (May 22, 2025), all hosted at ICOE-ACC.
