Three suspects are in custody following a string of residential burglaries in Calexico, including one where Christmas gifts were stolen from a home on Sterling Court.

Police responded to a 911 call from an elderly resident reporting intruders in her home on the 200 block of Sterling Court. Officers arrived to find that three individuals had forced entry by kicking in a back door and were in the process of stealing Christmas presents.

Authorities quickly located the suspects attempting to flee the area in a taxi cab. All three were detained, and officers recovered multiple bags of stolen property.

During the investigation, police discovered that a second home on the 1200 block of Rockwood Avenue had also been burglarized. Entry was gained by forcing open a door, and the home’s interior was ransacked. Property from this burglary was found in the suspects’ possession. Police further linked the trio to a third burglary on the 1700 block of Elena Drive.

The suspects were booked into Imperial County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary and other related offenses. Authorities credited the swift response and teamwork of officers for the quick arrests and the recovery of the stolen Christmas gifts, which will be returned to their rightful owners.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine if the suspects are connected to additional burglaries in the area.
