A jury found Ivan Quintana guilty on December 17 of five felony charges and one misdemeanor, concluding a trial in which he was accused of multiple violent offenses committed while serving a prison sentence at Calipatria State Prison.
The charges against Quintana stemmed from incidents in March 2023, when he was accused of sexually battering a prison employee and later battering and resisting two correctional officers.
After a brief deliberation, the jury unanimously found Quintana guilty on all counts, agreeing with the case presented by Senior Deputy District Attorney John Harter. The jury also determined that five aggravating factors were present in the case, including a finding that Quintana posed a serious danger to society.
Quintana, who has a history of felony convictions for robbery and residential burglary, had been scheduled for parole next year. However, his release is now unlikely as he faces sentencing for the new convictions on January 15, 2025, before Judge Christopher J. Plourd. At Harter’s request, Judge Plourd ordered Quintana to be held without bail pending sentencing.
