The Brawley Fire Department deployed a three-person crew on Aug. 4 to assist with the Gann Fire in Calaveras County after receiving a mutual aid request from the California Office of Emergency Services.
The crew departed at approximately 6 a.m. and has been assigned to the Gann Fire, a rapidly growing wildfire burning about 35 miles east of Stockton. The deployed firefighters are Isaiah Val, Daniel Rivera and Diego Amaya.
According to the Brawley Fire Department, the deployment is part of California’s statewide mutual aid system, which mobilizes firefighters and equipment from local agencies to assist communities facing large-scale emergencies.
The department said its personnel will support ongoing firefighting operations as crews continue working to contain the wildfire under challenging conditions.
According to published reports, the Gann Fire had burned more than 9,300 acres. The wildfire has prompted evacuation orders affecting more than 1,400 residents in parts of Calaveras County, including areas near Stockton Road, Finnigan Lane, Cuneo Road and Appaloosa Road. Heavy smoke from the fire has also affected air quality across portions of Northern California.
Firefighters from throughout California have been assigned to the incident as crews work to protect homes, critical infrastructure and natural resources while strengthening containment lines.
The Brawley Fire Department thanked the deployed firefighters for their service and commitment to assisting communities outside Imperial County through the state’s mutual aid system. Department officials also asked the public to join them in wishing the crew a safe assignment and a safe return home.
